A fire lit in the morning. Rocks carried into the Dark. You sit, you sweat, and you say what is true.

A sweat lodge is not a sauna and it is not a workshop. It is a ceremony. A frame is covered, a fire is built and tended for hours, and stones are heated in it until they carry the heat of the fire itself. Those stones come into the lodge, the door is closed, and water goes on them.
It gets very hot and very dark. Rounds are held with songs and with prayer, and there is a break between each one. Men who come expecting an endurance test tend to be surprised by how much of it is quiet.
You do not need to know anything to attend. You do not need to believe anything. You do need to arrive willing to be told how it is done, and to do it that way.
Morning
Gather
We gather and the fire is lit. The stones go in and heat through the day.
Afternoon
Rounds
Into the lodge. Rounds with a break between each, and you can step out at any one of them.
Evening
Food
We eat together. Nobody leaves hungry or straight out of the heat.
Overnight
Camping
Camping is available if you would rather not drive after. Bring what you need for a cold night.
Exact times come with your confirmation, along with the address and directions. It is on private land and we do not publish where.
This needs saying plainly and up front rather than buried in a form. Extreme heat is genuinely dangerous for some bodies, and the lodge is dark, enclosed, and slow to leave.
Several of these are a conversation, not an automatic no. Put it on the form and one of us will call you before the day. What is not negotiable is arriving without having said anything.
Start the day before, not that morning. Arrive already hydrated and bring more than you think.
Cotton, nothing synthetic. Shorts or a towel for the lodge, and warm dry clothes for after. It is November.
Eat lightly that day. Not fasting, and not a large meal beforehand.
No alcohol and no substances, before or during. This is a clear container.
You can leave a round at any time, and nobody will ask you why.
Ask for a seat
Four questions, about a minute. It tells us you want a seat and nothing more than that. One of us will get back to you, and will call first if anything on the list above applies to you. Nobody comes to this without a conversation.
